I am 18 years old and a freshman in college. I was recently charged with two misdemeanor charges, as well as two smaller charges. The big ones were using a fake ID and providing alcohol to minors. I also got possession of alcohol and another one I don't quite understand but I think its basically impersonation since the ID was of someone else.
The thing is, I was planning on fighting these charges in court, either with or without a lawyer, because I never actually used a fake ID. I bought alcohol at a store known for not carding and then was asked by the officer if I had a fake ID after the fact. I did happen to have a fake ID but never used it. The providing alcohol to a minor charge I believe is also BS because I had a friend with me when we purchased it. We split the cost and each carried half of it out. They are saying since I handed the money to the vendor it was technically me providing alcohol TO her.

Obviously they are not lawyers, but they told me I should do whatever I can to fight these charges. However, when I went to the courthouse to discuss the possibility of changing my courtdate (which I now have learned is impossible), I was told by a nice judge that I should do whatever I can to find a lawyer or I would have these misdemeanor charges on my account forever and that my parents were wasting their money sending me to my expensive college.
So I called a lawyer who recommended I pay her 1200 to completely expunge these charges all from my records.
Now I have a couple of questions...
1. Is it true you can only have one expungement ever? So if I do this and ever do anything wrong again I'm screwed?
2. Do I need a lawyer to get this expunged?
3. Is this a reasonable price?
4. Does it even make sense to have it expunged or is there a possibility I could get off not guilty from going to court?
I have absolutely no legal background, but am extremely interested in law and may actually end up going into the profession someday. That being said, I have the aptitude and the willingness to learn whatever I need to to be able to deal with this, I have just had trouble finding the information I need. Thank you so much to anyone who can help me.
